A Social Media Plan a Pune Small Business Can Actually Keep: 30 Minutes a Day
A Social Media Plan a Pune Small Business Can Actually Keep: 30 Minutes a Day
Most small-business owners I talk to in Pune already know they "should be on social media." The problem is never knowing. The problem is time. You run a clinic, a coaching class, a bakery or a hardware shop, and by the time the day ends, posting on Instagram is the last thing on your mind.
So the account goes quiet for three weeks, then you post five things in one evening, then it goes quiet again. That pattern is worse than posting less, because it tells people the business might not be active.
At MitraTech, we think the fix is a plan small enough to keep. Here is the routine we suggest to owners who want consistency without hiring a full-time person: about 30 minutes a day, five days a week.
First, decide what social media is for
Before any calendar, answer one question: what should someone do after seeing your post?
For most local businesses, the answer is one of these:
- Call or WhatsApp you (clinics, salons, repair services)
- Visit the shop (retail, restaurants, cafés)
- Fill an enquiry form (coaching classes, real estate, B2B services)
Pick one. Every post, bio and story should point toward that single action. A bio that says "Call or WhatsApp 98XXX XXXXX for appointments, Kothrud" does more work than a clever tagline.
Choose one main platform, not five
Being average on five platforms is harder and less useful than being steady on one. A rough way to choose:
- Instagram suits anything visual: food, fashion, interiors, salons, gyms, events.
- Facebook still works well for local community groups and an older audience.
- LinkedIn is the right home if you sell to other businesses.
- WhatsApp Business (status, catalogue and broadcast lists) is where many Indian customers already talk to you.
Start with one main platform plus WhatsApp. Add a second only once the first is a habit.
The weekly rhythm: five content buckets
The hardest part of posting is staring at a blank screen. Give each weekday a fixed type of post so you never have to think "what should I post today?"
- Monday: Show the work. A finished product, a before-and-after, a fresh batch, a new arrival.
- Tuesday: Answer a question. Something a customer actually asked you this week. "Do you deliver to Hadapsar?" is a perfectly good post.
- Wednesday: Behind the scenes. Your team, your kitchen, your workshop, how something is made.
- Thursday: A useful tip. Three ways to make a saree last longer, what to bring to a first dental visit, how to prepare for an admission test.
- Friday: The offer or reminder. Weekend timings, a festive menu, admission dates, a slot that opened up.
Five buckets, repeated every week. Your followers start to recognise the pattern, and you stop wasting time deciding.
What the 30 minutes looks like
Here is how the daily half hour breaks down:
- 10 minutes: capture. Take two or three photos or a short vertical video during normal work. Natural light near a window, phone held steady, the product filling the frame. That is enough.
- 10 minutes: write and post. One clear opening line, two or three short sentences, then the action ("WhatsApp us to book"). Add your area name, because people search locally.
- 10 minutes: reply. Answer comments and DMs, and respond to a few posts from neighbouring businesses or local pages. Social media is a conversation, and replies often matter more than the post.
On a busy day, skip the post and keep the replies. A message left unanswered for two days costs more than a missed post.
Batch on Sunday if weekdays are chaotic
If weekdays are unpredictable, use one hour on the weekend instead. Shoot photos for the week in one go, write five captions, and schedule them using the scheduling tools built into Meta Business Suite or LinkedIn. Then your weekday job is only the 10-minute reply window.
Make it look like one business
You don't need a designer for every post, but you do need consistency. Fix these once:
- Two or three brand colours and one or two fonts
- A clean logo that reads well as a small circle (your profile picture)
- A handful of simple templates for offers, tips and announcements
When posts share the same look, people recognise you while scrolling, even before they read your name. If your logo or templates feel dated, that is a good place to invest once rather than every week. Our creative and graphic design service is built for exactly this kind of one-time brand kit.
Track only three things
Ignore vanity numbers at the start. Once a month, look at:
- Enquiries that came from social media. Simply ask new customers, "How did you hear about us?"
- Messages and profile visits. These show intent better than likes.
- Which bucket performed best. If your tips get saved and shared, do more tips.
Then adjust. If Friday offers bring calls and Wednesday behind-the-scenes posts get nothing, swap Wednesday for a second tip post. A plan you tune every month beats a perfect plan you abandon.
Common mistakes to avoid
- Only posting offers. People follow accounts that are useful or interesting, not ones that only sell.
- Buying followers. They never become customers, and they make your real engagement look weak.
- Copying big brands. A national brand's polished reel is not your benchmark. A genuine video of your shop is often more trusted locally.
- Ignoring Google. Many people check your Google Business Profile and website after seeing a post. Make sure your timings, phone number and photos there match what you post.
When to get help
This routine works well for owners who want to run social media themselves. It stops working when the business grows and 30 minutes is no longer realistic, or when you want to add paid promotion and proper reporting.
That is where we come in. Our social media marketing service covers content planning, design, posting and monthly reviews, so you get the consistency without giving up your evenings. You can keep doing the parts you enjoy, like replying to customers, and hand off the rest.
Start this week
You don't need a big launch. Pick your one action, pick your one platform, write the five buckets on a sticky note, and post on Monday. Give it four weeks before judging.
